FAQ
What is EngiQueers?
EngiQueers Concordia is a student association at Concordia University, driven to address the under-representation of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in engineering. Our goal is to cultivate a supportive network for queer students and allies, enhancing community ties, advocacy, and professional opportunities within engineering.
As a proud chapter of EngiQueers Canada, we contribute to a national movement championing 2SLGBTQ+ inclusivity in STEM. EngiQueers Canada’s annual conference is a cornerstone, uniting students and professionals nationwide to foster representation and networking.
What about special events?
EngiQueers Concordia offers a variety of events to foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for networking and socializing:
Social Connection: We organize Queer Chats, including board games, movie, and craft nights for 2SLGBTQ+ community engagement. Collaborating with Women in Engineering, we address topics related to mental health through social events and workshops during mental health month. We also participate in the Montreal Pride Parade, celebrating with other local chapters.
Advocacy and Education: Our workshops, in partnership with the Concordia Centre for Gender Advocacy and Sex and Self Concordia, focus on gender wellness, sex positivity, and comprehensive sexual education. We also offer EDI (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) training with EngiQueers Canada, covering topics from oppression systems to intersectionality.
Professional Networking: To boost 2SLGBTQ+ representation in the professional sphere, we host networking and “Wine and Cheese” events in collaboration with QueerTech and company ERGs, enhancing connections between members and companies. Additionally, we participate in the EngiQueers Canada Conference, a national event fostering knowledge exchange among professionals, student groups, and leaders, aimed at promoting EDI initiatives.

How do I stay informed?
What about 2SLGBTQIA+ support?
We acknowledge the unique challenges within the traditionally male-dominated field of engineering in Canada, where LGBTQIA+2S representation and inclusivity have room for growth. Our society actively contributes to changing this landscape by creating a supportive network, promoting visibility, and advocating for an inclusive culture that values diversity in thought and identity. Through our efforts, we aim to not only support our members but also to inspire the broader engineering community to embrace inclusivity as a cornerstone of innovation and progress.
Why do we need EngiQueers?
Overcoming the substantial barriers faced by members of marginalized communities within the engineering sector is central to our mission. We are dedicated to bridging the gap between 2SLGBTQIA+ aspiring engineers and potential allies, actively advocating to counteract discrimination in the workplace.
Simultaneously, our goal is to foster a close-knit community where members can engage in professional networking and find personal support. This dual approach aims to empower individuals not only in their careers but also in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all.
